Dale Stevenson is sleeping out to support homeless veterans

    Date: 25th February 2020

Our Business Development Manager Dale Stevenson will be joining the leader of Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) on Thursday 26th March 2020 in a military-style sleep out to raise crucial funds for homeless veterans.

Dale will join Chief Executive Steve Sherry CMG OBE for the RBLI Sleep Out which was launched after the Aylesford-based military charity took in three veterans over the recent Christmas period – one of whom was 81-years-old.

To raise awareness of the issue, Dale will bed down outside on 26th March on the RBLI’s Aylesford Village, which houses more than 300 veterans and their families – many of whom were homeless or at risk of homelessness before receiving support from the charity.

Dale said, “RBLI are dedicated to helping homeless veterans by providing them with welfare assistance and accommodation and I am really proud to be taking part in this event and fundraising to support vulnerable veterans.

I will be raising awareness of homelessness in the Armed Forces community as well as raising vital funds for RBLI enabling them to continue to support programmes like their Step In, which houses veterans in crisis, when they first come to the village and puts a longer term plan in place.

I’ll be having dinner and breakfast with veterans living in RBLI’s village, meeting those who will benefit from the fundraising first-hand and learning about their story. I would be so grateful to receive any donations you’re able to give.”

Steve Sherry added, “The vast majority of veterans transition from the Armed Forces relatively smoothly. However, for far too many they can face significant challenges which can result in them becoming homeless – sometimes many years after their return to civilian life, as we have seen over this recent festive period.

Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to know just how many homeless veterans there are across Kent and many will not know of the services available to them at RBLI. Here we provide every veteran with the accommodation, welfare and – eventually – employment support to help move them back towards independence.
