    Rennicks provides a comprehensive range of extruded aluminium channel profiles and stainless steel sign fixings to the road traffic and commercial sign industries. Our hardware range has evolved over 30 years to meet industry and customer needs and Rennicks continue to adapt to new requirements.

    Rennicks has provided information on the structural and material properties of it’s channel range to the providers of the main traffic sign design software packages used in the UK. This allows a design by calculation to be undertaken for a particular sign. To demonstrate the structural conformity of road traffic sign design to BS EN 12899-1, a declaration of conformity can be produced from the software confirming the factors considered in the structural evaluation.

    To determine the channel type and positions for the structural design, the sign designer/manufacturer selects the following factors and the substrate type.

    • Sign dimensions
    • Mounting height
    • Number of posts
    • Post centres/overhang
    • Wind pressure

    The software then provides the optimum Rennicks channel type and spacing for compliant and cost-effective support using the least number of sections. There are two ways of determining wind pressure:

    • From the National Annex in BS EN 12899-1,which provides recommendations on regionalwind loads and proximity to the coast.
    • By using location, altitude and topographicalinformation allowing a site-specific design tobe undertaken in accordance with theEN1991-1-4 Eurocodes, wind actions on structures.
